Oslo is a city like no other - with 40 islands and 343 lakes, it is uniquely situated between the Oslo Fjord and the forest covered mountains of Oslomarka. Oslo's Fjord islands offer a range of recreational activities, many of which can be reached by ferry. Although Oslo has a relatively small population compared to other European cities, it is in fact one of the largest in terms of area size. Two thirds of the capital is covered by protected forests and lakes, making Oslo a truly green city, where there is always an opportunity to engage in outdoor pursuits. Oslo is a city rich in culture and steeped in history, with an eclectic architectural mix of old and new. It is an up and coming city under constant change, making it a very desirable place to work, live and visit. Oslo is the ideal destination for those interested in outdoor activities and is the only European capital where one can enjoy a mixture of cycling, hiking, ice-skating, kayaking, sailing and skiing, depending on the season. Many consider Oslo as a winter destination; however it is very much a summer retreat too, with temperatures reaching up to 30°C in the summer months. Both visitors and locals spend the majority of their time outdoors during the summer, either picnicking in the city's abundant park areas, or embarking on a fjord island cruise aboard a traditional wooden sail ship. The activities and attractions available in Oslo are many and varied, whether you desire a delectable meal in one of the city's 5 Michelin starred restaurants, or you prefer to soak up the sun on the beach. Oslo offers a tremendous array of attractions, from shops and restaurants to World-class museums, to theatre, film and art. Three museums that we find particularly interesting are: The Fram Museum Oslo has an excellent public transport system and options to get around include buses, taxis, trains, tram, bicycle and ferry.
